Its embarrassing when the religious try to use science in their arguments, bordering on offensive.

@OriginalSin42K Oy. You may not realize it but I think you're guilty of what they call a "Gish Gallup". I don't know where to start here. Let me quote the Lubavitcher Rebbe. He said something relevant: "In the old days there was an excess of religious passion. Today there's a dearth. We need to find a middle ground." Still, you ask is religion TRUE? You WANT to believe, but you need some proof, eh? Where IS G*d? TBC...

@chodeshadar18 Not for a second did I dispute that religion inspires things, look at war, the crusades; the Spanish inquisition; the holocaust and even the current suicide bombings by extremists. Religion is a great source of inspiration, just a pity it is also full of hatred and ignorance. None of these inspiring things make it true it is unfortunate that bigoted beliefs cause great harm for example slavery was biblically justified originaly and also homophobia today.

@chodeshadar18 Performed delicate surgery... trepanning without anesthetic... And whilst religion may inspire people that does not give belief the power to change facts you are still incorrect on that,

@OriginalSin42K No sir you are wrong. Faith moves the world. It can spur an illiterate French farm girl to lead armies to victory. It can free slaves. It can conquer continents. Faith, vision, inspiration--these are what make us more than animals. And shame on you for dishing the bronze agers! They navigated seas, performed delicate surgeries, created magnificent art and architecture (including structures that totally baffle us) and epic poems, mostly in the name of---religion!

@gnrrule415 Living beings ARE selfish. G*d is alive so OK He is too. Indeed He is the life of the universe, and nothing has any existence independent of His will. I believe everything He says. Do I ALWAYS follow his words as asked? Ha! I don't always FEEL my dependence/connection to Him, which allows for free will. So no I don't. That's why the Torah gives us ways to repent our sins & return to Him. There HAVE been some, like Abraham, who completely united their will with His Will.

@chodeshadar18 Sounds like an awfully selfish God to me. And let me ask, do you believe in all the words this God says and follow them as he's asked?
OriginalSin42K (December 31, 1969 at 4:59 pm)
@chodeshadar18 no mate, BELIEF DOES NOT CHANGE FACTS. You might believe as hard as you want that I am a teapot however I assure you I NEVER EVER will be. This is exactly the same as belief in an uneducated bronze age myth that includes talking snakes and zombie healers you may BELIEVE it all you like but it is still UTTER BOLLOCKS. Hope this helped clarify.
chodeshadar18 (December 31, 1969 at 4:59 pm)
@OriginalSin42K We interpret the facts of life in different ways. No two people think alike. That's the wonder of being human. You however are a slave to the current facts, while I have a thing called faith that has the power to change them. |
