Title: Tommy Roe - The Folk Singer lyricsArtist: Tommy Roe LyricsHe used to sing his songs to his Sara Jane,The folk singer,His songs filled with love made the mountains ring,To the folk singer,At first Sara Jane was to be his bride,But as his fame grew she was pushed aside,So the mountain girl would say good-bye,To the folk singer,He let his hair grow long and he dressed in style,The folk singer,His voice was pure and the fans went wild,For the folk singer,He said Sara Jane was much too plain,So he left her alone as he gained more fameBut sorrow will come like a mountain rain,To the folk singer,Lavished in glory, fortune at his feet,The folk singer,Awoke one morning and he couldn't speak,The folk singer,The doctor said his singing days were through,Thousands wept, Sara Jane did too,He could not sing now his friends were few,The folk singer,Sick at heart in the mountains again,The folk singer,Now Sara Jane didn't look so plain,To the folk singer,Oh the power of love can do strange things,Cause love has made him sing again, only now he sings for his Sara Jane,The folk singer,And once again the mountains ring,To the folk singer,The folk singer,The folk singer.

Got you beat timewise Friend-I still listen to this great song by Tommy on the original 45-little scratchy though, so I'm so grateful for chance to listen to it here. Great song, great artist, from a time when lyrics, tune, talent, mattered.

One of my favorite Tommy Roe songs first heard it on the excellent Sweet Pea lp along with Kick Me Charlie, a few good covers and earlier hits along with Sweet Pea and Hazel

This is my favorite of all of Mr. Roe's songs. I played so much my 8track tape broke :(Listen to it still, some 40 odd years later.

At work we talked about our Valentine's Day and music. I suddenly remembered "The Folk Singer" and had to listen to this simple love song that I remembered from my teens. This was the version I knew best. Thanks Tommy, where ever you are.

@Mraodom1966- Tommy did have a song titled "Moon Talk". The flipside had the song "Sweet Sounds". Both songs were from his album "It's Now Winter's Day" from 1967. If you are on Facebook- I have a "Fans Of Tommy Roe" page there. Ron

Does anyone know if Tommy Roe had a b-side titled "Moon Walkin'"?

The story is like the Ballad of a Teenage Queen with the gender roles reversed.Great recording.
