@andyantagonist72 except that when you talk about a metal groupes it can be Evanescence as well as Celtic Frost and Trivium. And they are all completely different. For exemple, Linkin Park (the old things they did) and System of a Down wouldn't even be called metal by some people (both non metalheads and metalheads), even if they are. Thats why it can be good to be precise and say Death metal.

@marshallvs100 I think Avenged would be metal; not Heavy metal, but just plain metal. They're too hard for just Hard Rock, but not quite Heavy Metal either. Their choruses tend to be too soft for them to be heavy metal

@andyantagonist72 I wouldn't say sub-genres are worthless. Without them, people generalize all metal to be the same thing. I don't want people to bring up Avenged Sevenfold when they hear I listen to Kalmah.
